Welcome Letter

MASCC/ISOO 2016: A future with Supportive Care for All

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) and the International Society of Oral Oncology (ISOO), we are delighted to invite you to join us at the 2016 Annual Meeting in Adelaide, South Australia. Make June 23 – 25th 2016 a commitment in your diary now!

The meeting will be the 25th anniversary MASCC meeting, as well as the 30th meeting for ISOO. It will showcase the significant progress that has been made during that time towards managing the symptoms and side effects of cancer and its treatment from a multi-professional perspective. It will be an opportunity to celebrate the impact supportive care has had on patient experience, survival and treatment outcomes, which will be marked in part with a specific patient symposium.

Around 1,700 delegates from 60 countries met in Copenhagen in 2015 for the most successful and productive MASCC meeting to date. In 2016 we hope to build on that by giving delegates from Asia and the Far East the opportunity to join the truly international discussion and exchange of the latest information in supportive care research and practice.

The  MASCC meeting is unique in its multi-disciplinary approach to the scientific programme, which will feature plenary session topics that span the range of specialties and allied professions, enabling the whole team to come together to discuss issues of mutual interest on a global platform.  Furthermore the unique opportunity for in-depth discussion at the 17 study group meetings covering topics from antiemetics to skin toxicity means you can contribute to forming global opinion and guidance for approaches to symptom and side effect management.

South Australia has much to offer you, being the global centre of excellence for GI symptom management, and home to over 30 world renowned cancer experts, many of whom will be speaking at the Meeting. The brand new state-of-the-art Royal Adelaide Hospital will open its doors for the first time at the time of the conference.  Furthermore the attractions of the Barossa and McLaren Valleys, Granite Island, numerous National Parks and the spectacular scenery of Kangaroo Island promise that there will be something for everyone to enjoy. It is also a portal for access to the unique sights of Central Australia.

Adelaide is an exciting and cosmopolitan centre that we invite you to experience with us at this historic time and to move forward with us into the future of supportive care.

Please also share this invitation with any colleagues whom you think may be interested to attend. Meanwhile we look forward to welcoming you to MASCC 2016.

With Warmest Regards
